Stephane Dion Must Sell Himself
The Liberals knew the weaknesses of all the 4 candiates running for the leadership. Ignatieff was a rookie politican, Rae was a very unpopular Premier, and Kennedy has poor french. Dion's English is weak and his charisma is even worse. The Liberals are not in power and may not be able to move up in the polls for choosing the safe option at the convention. Dion was the most experienced cabinet minister running for the leadership and his career has been scandal free.
But he doesn't have the ability to win over the masses. With Martin gone how did Stephen Harper end up being the more charismatic leader? In a recent poll Dion has fallen to third. In the era of 5 second media clips, Dion must get noticed or risk being side-lined to a devastating loss and being forced out as Liberal Leader.
Harper has a loyal base and is moving to the centre to attract more voters. Most Liberals foolishly think Canadians will flee to the Liberal party again after a short minority government. But if they can't sell their own leader, Canadians will keep the status quo.

Personally I like Dion. I like that he sticks to his principles. I like that he has a vision for Canada that looks out for all Canadians and not just the ones with money and power. I like his all-encompassing plan for this country.
However, I have also noticed that for most voters, it's most often than not: what's in it for me. For a measly amount of money (remember the GST), they will sacrifice their future and their children's future.
Harper's vision for Canada is the American (the imperialist side) vision, of even more integration, exploitation of our resources, far-right christian values, divisiveness, support of the US perpetual wars. But if he promises us a few cents here and a few cents there, he will be voted back in, most probably with that majority he has been hungered after for so long. I have also noticed, to my utter chagrin, that voters seem to prefer bullies to kind compassionate human beings as leaders.
I do not know how Dion and his team counter such short-sightedness. But, as Yoda would say, try they must!
The Liberals are still in a lot of trouble, Dion is not the guy that can be a PM.
He is as interesting as a wet rag, and he has a lot of baggage attached to him, esp. in Quebec. This is the area where they need to regain their support, I doubt people there will be looking up to him to woo then back.
As for anonymous ahead of me, god I thought that was Dave typing it, but even he isn't that stupid with his opinions. At least Harper is giving those few pennies more then the Liberals ever gave us.
