War With Iraq Morally Wrong
I believe the United States is making a fatal error in the world
community. Only 10%
of the world countries support this unilateral action. Tony Blair's
suicidal support of this unjust war is solely based on his
philosophical belief that he should support the US because it is the
mightiest country in the world. The other countries that are supporting
this action are being bribed by foreign aid. (Turkey) By operating
under this ideology Sale and Pelletier's silver medal should have been
justified, because Russia put the money in, and Canada decided to
competed fairly.
I believe the UN did the right thing by not being corrupted by American
influence, and looking at the facts not the money. The US states this
war is not about oil, but during President Bush's speech one of the
first things he told Iraqi's was not to destroy the supply of oil. In
the speech the President also spoke out against torture, and stated
that torture will end under American occupation. If Iraq is toppled
will the US decide to abide by the Geneva convention and give prisoners
rights? Most importantly will it abide by the wishes of its founding
fathers that made cruel and unusual punishment illegal, or will it turn
into the kind of empire that they fought against for freedom?
The US's
evidence has been laughable because it has failed to prove how
Iraq could even fight its way out of a cardboard box with the massive
military presence watching its every move. Some say that Canada should
support the US because they are our ally, and in the event of crisis
they will be the first one to come to our aid. But then I remember last
April when 4 Canadians were killed by American fire, and the President
simply brushed it off when he was first approached stating that already
talked to the PM and that's who he's willing to do. I urge the US to
decide to follow not in the path of Timothy McVeigh's path of mass
destruction but rather Martin Luther King's path of reconciliation.
