Paul Martin's New Democratic Deficit Liberal
internal warfare reached a new climax this week. Thousands of liberals
were forced to decide between a former deputy PM with 20 years of
political experience and a new minister who is loyal to Paul Martin.
Regardless of what you think of Sheila Copps, there is no denying that
she is one of the most recognizable liberals in Canada and this whole
nomination process has made Paul Martin appear to be the most vengeful
prime minister in Canadian history. In my opinion, Sheila Copps was not a star minister in Chretien's cabinet. As heritage minister, she allowed CanWest Global to acquire unprecedented control of the Canadian media. Also under her watch, the CBC had the roughest ride in its history as its spending was slashed; forcing them to air more repeats and reduces local news departments. Clearly, the heritage portfolio did not help Chrétien’s legacy. But Sheila Copps is still a valuable part of the liberal party because she represents the socialist wing of the liberals and has easily won her riding in every election in the past 20 years. In additon, most Canadians do not even know who Tony Valeri is. He is just one of the rookie cabinet ministers who do not even have the ability to defend the prime minister, and could there be a creepier looking politician. The reason why Paul Martin is so visible is that all of the star ministers have been removed from the liberal government. More and more it looks like the liberals in fighting will reduce them to a minority government. Paul Martin's cowardly behaviour of not owing up to his knowledge of the sponsorship scandal shows he is lacking the required leadership to lead the second biggest country on Earth. To damage the liberal party more his claims of democratic deficit has greatly aided the opposition parties. No leaders should ever be this selfish. His situation is parallel to Al Gore's. If Al Gore allowed Clinton to campaign with him, maybe he would have been able to win Clinton's home state of Arkansas that would have given him the necessary votes to win the presidency. The sponsorship
scandal has proven
Martin's double standards. Jean
Pelletier should have been fired for his inflammatory comment towards
single women. However, why was he fired and Hedy Fry (a Paul Martin
supporter) was allowed back in cabinet after her remarks of alleged
cross burnings? Related Rants:Vote LiberalUnited Right Fails to sink Martin; Left makes big strides Canada won't get a Blackjack with 21st PM Related Links:2003 Auditor General Reporcanadianwild.ca Feedback0 Commentscanadianwild.ca Interactive: Your Chance To Rant |
